Global Seva Challenge 2011: Haiti
The Challenge
Every year "Off the Mat, Into the World" holds a Global Seva Challenge to get aid for a country in dire need. 2011 is focused on supporting humanitarian efforts in Haiti. Haiti is the poorest country in the Western Hemisphere. As of September 2010, there are over 1 million refugees still living in tents without access to water, food and health care. Working with select aid organizations, "Off the Mat, Into the World" will respond to both critical needs and also work to create and implement long term solutions. Trainings will also be offered that empower local individuals and communities to become sustainably self sufficient. The Global Seva Challenge is to raise $20,000 by December, and then go to Haiti next February and partake in the humanitarian work that is so needed. I am SO excited to join the challenge, and ready for all it will bring, physically, mentally, and emotionally....feels incredible to do something so much bigger than myself, and then go to Haiti and help first hand AND actually be with the Haitian people.
